Starting off

Use either Baby rice or a root vegetable.

As weaning is recommended to start from six months pureeing is not always necessary. Root vegetables once cooked can be mashed down with a fork and baby rice made to a thicker consistency so it drops of Baby's spoon instead of running.

However some Parents will prefer to start weaning onto solids from the puree stage and to do this you can use Baby rice mixed with boiled water, breastmilk or formula milk (but always tastes better with breastmilk or formula milk).

Root vegetables should be peeled, chopped and either steamed or boiled until soft then blended down into a puree. If you do not have a blender, mashing down with a fork then pushing through a sieve works just as well to remove lumps.

Fruit puree can be used, but remember Babies already have a sweet tooth, so if Baby isn't liking the root vegetable puree adding a little breastmilk or formula milk sometimes helps.
